Oral exams, and street food

I realized I've complained semi-frequently about how uncomfortable/awkward my books are in classes.  But as somebody who is relatively self-aware and understands something called "subtext", I often find myself in an uncomfortable position.  For your consideration, today I administered oral exams to my saturday morning classes.  This involved me asking the following questions to 7 girls, all between the ages of 11 and 15:

"Hi, what is your name? And how do you spell that?"
"How old are you? Really? And when is your birthday?"

"What are you doing this weekend?"
"If you could do anything this weekend, what would you do?"
"How old will you be in 2020?"
"Do you think you will get married?"
"Do you want children?"

I'm also supposed to make eye contact with all of them, to encourage engagement in the conversation.  Fortunately, they all were pretty nervous for this "quiz", so I don't think they noticed me squirming uncomfortably in my chair.

Also, I've officially decided that it's open season on street food.  The majority of it is fried or cooked right in front of you, so even if the conditions are less than sanitary, the fryer should take care of most of the bacteria.  Right now it's only hornadas (some type of flaky fried dough - a breakfast-type affair) and completos (hot dogs with tomatoes, something like relish, and avocado), but I assume I'll branch out more in the future as well.  I saw somebody selling racks of sushi the other day, but I think I'll pass on "fresh" street sushi.  The guys who were selling it weren't even asian.

First day of Michigan Football!  I'm off to "California Bar", an American style restaurant here.
